Tour de France - Tandem Style!

 We have qualified!

In our youth in France
Adam and I needed a pandemic goal. Nothing small like moving our shop from Middleton to Monona, but something adventurous and BIG. We considered many ideas: climbing Mount Everest, swimming the English Channel, parasailing over the Atlantic ocean. But since we are highly skilled in cycling, we set our sites on something really big: The new tandem bicycle competition at the 2021 Tour de France!

Training on Wisconsin roads

We worked vigorously during the year-long pandemic to qualify to compete in the inaugural tandem bicycle event of the Tour de France.  It was a long journey to get to this point, but with a lot of training and contacting the right people, we managed to qualify and will participate in the 108th Tour de France starting June 26, 2021.

It all started with a Zoom meeting with the UCI (International Cycling Union) president, David Lappartient.  Since he lives in Switzerland, we had to consider not only the time difference for our meeting, but the best place to set up our stationary tandem bicycle in our living room equipped with cameras and timers to demonstrate not only our skill and speed, but our utter determination.

Indoor training facility
Our standard training workweek consisted of 25 to 30 hours of cycling. Though it took a great deal of training, Adam and I have managed -- with the help of a Peloton App -- to learn all 21 stages of the Tour from Brest to Paris.

We will proudly represent team Confectionique with our pink jerseys. We just wish you could be there to cheer us on!
