I love reading design magazines, and even with years of back issues and saved pages and reading and re-reading certain issues, I was not very familiar with the Pantone Color Institute -- but it appears that they are important enough that they warranted an entire segment on NPR about it's color of the year for 2014!
According to the IndyStar.com, "Pantone, the world's arbiter of hues, has announced Radiant Orchid as the 2014 Color of the Year. 'An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm,' said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute."
I was intrigued and looked the color up online and it is indeed a beauty. Radiant Orchid, known as the "color of joy," certainly evokes this with it's sense of serenity. So, I have decided that throughout the year I am going to incorporate Radiant Orchid into each market theme. I will look for this and similar hues in fabrics, paints and Paris market finds. (We'll be premiering the color in our newly revamped Bon Bon Room at out February Nouveau Market Feb. 6-9.) Oh, this will be a most joyful challenge for me and the other craft designers at Confectionique! Fall in love with Radiant Orchid -- I already have!
