You will find these in abundance at Marche d'Aligre in Paris. Honestly, Jessica and I just couldn't pass up old photos of families from long ago enjoying their holidays, turn of the 20th century letters and vintage books. What I have posted here is an instruction manual made for new servicemen published in 1897. The cartoons must have been used, in lieu of a lot of words, to describe how one becomes and remains a good soldier.
However, it also seems to convey, through it's whimsical illustrations, that being in the military is a whole lot of fun!
These illustrations will be at our holiday market and you can see them for yourself.
